BACKGROUND
Zambia is a landlocked country situated in the southern part of Africa. Independent from colonial rule on 24th October, 1964.
AREA: Zambia is totally landlocked and covers a stretch of 752,614sq. Kilometers.
ELEVATION: 1,300meters above sea level, covered with woodland savannah, interspersed with Lakes River, hills swamps and luscious plains.
BEARING: 10 - 18 degrees south of the equator.
Capital and Financial center: Lusaka.
CLIMATE: Three distinct seasons: - Hot/dry September to October, warm/wet November to April, cool/dry May to August.
POPULATION: Approximately 11 million people
Official language: - English
There are 73 tribes in Zambia
TOURIST ATTRACTIONS: Mosi Otunya which means the water that thunders (Victoria Falls)
Game Parks: There many wild animals found in parks such as Lions, Elephants, Rhinos Zebras, Giraffes, Crocodiles Monkeys Chimpanzees, Snakes, etc.
AGRICULTURE: - 60 -70niillion hectors are being cultivated: - cotton, maize, groundnuts, oilseed, wheat, sugarcane, tobacco, tea and paprika are grown.
Economically the country has declined, 80% of the Zambians are living below the datum line.
CHURCH: There are three main mother bodies, namely Episcopal, Evangelical and Christian Council of Zambia (CCZ). The United Church of Zambia, which is the largest protestant church in Zambia, falls under CCZ.
The United Church of Zambia has four main courts i.e. Synod, Presbytery, Consistory and Congregation. The Church has got departments such as Mission and Evangelism, Medical and Social Services which include the schools, Farm colleges, Mission stations, Projects department, the Theological College which now is able to offer degree programmes in theology, The Theological College is currently organizing an international conference under the Theme 'Mission in 21st Century'.
